TU 2008 INTERNATIONAL & REGIONAL EVENT RULES

There are no “Beginner” or “Intermediate” titles; all Regional and International Titles are open to twirlers of any level.  Time limits are broad enough to include all levels.  

PUBLICITY INFORMATION

Every contestant entering the solo competition (any event) at Regional or International level agrees before entry that she will not make any attempts to provide her own publicity and no one else will do it on her behalf. Champions are given a press release granting permission to contact local newspapers.  

MISS TU WORLD MAJORETTE &  REGIONAL MAJORETTE

1. Divisions:    

Tiny Tot  (ages 0-8)             
Juvenile (ages 9-11)
Junior   (ages 12-14)         
Teen (ages 15-18)
Senior (ages 19+)
               

This is a three-part contest: Dress/Costume Modeling (50% interview), Competition Solo, (Time is 1˝ to 2˝ minutes) and Show Routine.  Contestants must compete in all three aspects for this competition and the winner will be determined using equal credit for all three parts.  In case of tie, the Show Routine placing will be the tie-breaking factor.  

Show Routine music must be on a cassette tape - labeled with the contestant's name and ready to play. (Any contestant choosing to use a burned CD should bring a cassette or their own CD player as backup in case of  technical difficulty.)  

Once a girl has won a TU World Majorette title, she may not compete for the same title.  She must wait until she has changed age groups to compete for the Miss TU World Majorette title again.  This does not apply to the regional titles.  

REGIONAL & INTERNATIONAL SOLO

Open to both boys and girls.  Open to all levels.

Time Limit: 1:30-2:30

Score Sheet and Penalties - Same as Open Solo  

Preliminary Ages: 0-6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 +
(at TU Internationals: 17-18, 19, 20, and 21+).  

Boys and girls together. The top 2 in each preliminary age category will retwirl for the international (or regional) title.  Age divisions for twirl-off: 0-8, 9-11, 12-14, 15 and over. At Internationals: Ages 15-18 and 19+ are separate. Only the winner of the twirloff will carry the title "TU International (or Regional) Solo Champion".  

REGIONAL & INTERNATIONAL FANCY STRUT

Ages: 0-8, 9-11, 12-14, 15 & Over.  No special pattern required. Same rules as open Fancy Strut - Time Limit: 2 minutes maximum  

REGIONAL & INTERNATIONAL  PARADE MARCH

Age Divisions: 0-8, 9-11, 12-14, 15+over.

Same rules as open Parade March competition except routine must be performed in a straight line. Open to both boys & girls.  

REGIONAL & INTERNATIONAL TWO-BATON & THREE-BATON

Ages: 0-8, 9-11,12-14, 15 & Over

Timing begins with opening salute of at least one baton and stops with ending salute of least one baton .

Time Limit  1:30-2:00 for 2-Baton. 
Time Limit :30- 2:00 for 3-Baton.
 

REGIONAL & INTERNATIONAL DUET

Division determined by averaging ages: 0-8, 9-11, 12-14, 15+ Over. Two contestants compete together with one baton each.  Timing begins and ends with salute.  Time limit  1˝ to 2˝ minutes. Standard march music is used.

INTERNATIONAL POM SOLO

Use own music.  Time Limit: Maximum 1 ˝ minutes; Timing begins and ends with music.     Ages 0-8, 9-11, 12-14, 15+

REGIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL AWARDS

Each participant in the Miss TU World Majorette competition will receive a special memento, regardless of her placing.  Winners will receive arm bouquets, large trophies, banners with Regional and International Titles and International winners will be featured on the Twirling Unlimited website.  

TU Regional Majorettes  will receive a $50 savings bond in addition to flowers and trophy.

TU World Majorettes will receive a $250 savings bond, flowers, trophy and specially engraved traveling plaque for a year; Teen and Senior will receive a $500 savings bond. 1st through 5th place overall winners will receive a trophy.  In addition, first, second and third place winners in modeling, twirling and show routine will receive a medallion appropriate to their placement.

International Parade March, 2 Baton, 3 Baton and Fancy Strut Champions will receive a trophy and banner.

Regional and International Solo preliminary winners will receive 1st place trophy in each individual age division.  1st, 2nd & 3rd place in Regional Solo twirl-off will receive a large trophy.

International Solo Champions will receive a specially engraved traveling plaque to keep for one year. All International Solo finalists will receive a trophy( 1st- 6th).  

Group awards for 1st place in Regional or International events will be a trophy for first and individual champion medallions for each member. From 2nd place down each individual member will receive contestant medallion.

Beginner (Level 3) & Intermediate (Level 4) Pageant winners at the TU International competition will receive a full scholarship to the TU camp of their choice.

DANCE

 In certain areas YOUTH UNLIMITED (a branch of Twirling Unlimited) presents DANCE Competitions.  The following rules apply:  

Solos:  A beginner in solo or duet is defined as one who has not won more than five 1st place awards in that specific division, hence a performer may be Beginner in Jazz, but Advanced in Tap, etc.

Solo  & Duet Age Groups:  0-8, 9-11, 12-14, 15+  (duets use average age)  

Group Divisions:

Small: 3-5 members       
Medium: 6-10 members           
Large: 11+ members 

Ages:  (Avg)    

Up to 6.9 -  PeeWee    
7.0 to 8.9 -   Tiny Tot
9.0 to 10.9 – Juvenile
11.0 to 13.9 Junior
14.0 and Up - Senior

Note: Contestant’s age is determined by their age as of the day of the competition.  

Groups are divided according to age and category, eg. Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Lyrical,   Clogging, Gymno/Acro,  etc. (Pom Groups are separate - See Baton Section)  

Competing groups may be designated as Beginner or Advanced by the instructor.  However, if a group designated as Beginner scores higher than the top group in that same category in Advanced, then they shall be considered Advanced.  The same rule applies to solos if a Beginner scores higher than the Advanced performer, the Advanced performer will be given a Protection Rule 2nd place.

Difficulty & Originality of Material - 20
Music Interpretation/ General Effect - 20
Technique - 20
Execution - 20
Stage Presence/Showmanship - 20  

Time Limits:           

All groups: 1:30 - 3 minutes
Solos & Duets:   3 minutes maximum
Under/Overtime Penalty   .1 per second

Awards:

Number of awards for solos and  duets is based on the number of contestants in the division.  Solos and duets:  1 award per contestant 

For group divisions, each group receives a trophy regardless of the number in the division.   Groups:  minimum 3 members – 1 trophy for the group
